CITY TO TAGAYTAY, Cavite (PIA) – The City Government of Tagaytay has stepped up its advocacy for women’s rights as it joined the annual 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) with a series of community-wide activities aimed at raising awareness and strengthening local protection efforts.
In partnership with the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) and the Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children (LCAT-VAWC), the city held a motorcade across major roads to signal the start of the campaign.
Streamers bearing this year’s call, “United for a VAW-free community!”, were installed in key areas, while Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to residents to help broaden public understanding of women’s rights and available support services.
Social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) also led a seminar highlighting key laws that protect women and children, including Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, and Republic Act 11930, the law against Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM).
The orientation emphasized both the gravity of these offenses and the government’s ongoing efforts to prevent abuse and support survivors.
City officials underscored that the campaign reflects Tagaytay’s continued commitment to building a safe, respectful, and gender-responsive community.
“Together with our barangays and partner departments, we stand strong in promoting respect, protection, and empowerment of women,” the local government said, urging the public to stay vigilant, report cases of abuse, and extend support to victims and survivors.
