GEN. TRIAS, Cavite — A stronger push for community resilience took center stage on November 26–27 as Grade 7 students of Luis Ferrer Sr. National High School participated in an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on Disaster Education for Flood.
The two-day program aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness among young learners through innovative, interactive, and technology-driven approaches. Organized by the Cavite Information and Advocacy – Flood Resilience Improvement and Management Program (CIA-FRIMP), in partnership with the City Government of General Trias and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the activity paired classroom learning with modern digital tools to make disaster education more engaging.
A key feature of the event was the use of a 3D City Model, which allowed students to visualize community landscapes, identify hazard-prone areas, and understand how strategic urban planning can help minimize flood risks.
Another highlight was the Minecraft Lecture and Hands-On Training conducted by Mr. Keisuke Ono of the Tohoku Institute of Technology. Using the popular game platform, students simulated flood scenarios, explored vulnerable environments, and designed disaster-resilient structures—turning play into a powerful educational tool.
Through this initiative, CIA-FRIMP continues to equip young people with life-saving knowledge and practical skills, fostering a culture of preparedness and inspiring future advocates of community resilience. —/CPIO
