Price freeze still in effect, DTI reminds retailers as State of Calamity continues in Cavite

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA) — With the Province of Cavite under a state of calamity following the onslaught of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is reminding all consumers and retailers that basic necessities are placed under price control.

Pursuant to Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 5059-2026 which placed the entire province under a state of calamity, the price of basic commodities in local retailers are automatically frozen or placed under price control.

This includes basic food products such as canned sardines, milk, coffee, bread, instant noodles, and drinking water.

Household items, including iodized salt, detergent and laundry soap, and candles also remain in their previous prices.

In its price bulletin, DTI Cavite clarified that the price freeze applies to all basic commodities being sold in supermarkets and groceries in the entire province.

Following Section 6 of Republic Act 7581, more commonly known as the Price Act, the prices of basic necessities in an area under a State of Calamity are automatically frozen at their prevailing prices until otherwise declared by the President. This includes localities declared a disaster area and under an emergency.

According to the DTI, the price freeze will continue for 60 days since the declaration of the State of Calamity.

To recall, Governor Francis Gabriel Remulla announced the declaration of a State of Calamity in the entire province due to the enhanced effects of the southwest monsoon and the recent tropical cyclones last August 11. (PB-PIA CALABARZON, with reports from DTI Cavite)
