Imus Marks 128th Battle of Alapan Anniversary

IMUS, Cavite — The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in partnership with the City Government of Imus and the Philippine Navy, successfully led the opening of the National Flag Days and the commemoration of the 128th Anniversary of the Battle of Alapan on May 28, 2026, at the Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat in Imus Heritage Park.

Carrying the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan,” the event paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of Filipino heroes who fought for the nation’s freedom and highlighted the significance of preserving the country’s rich historical heritage for future generations.

The Battle of Alapan holds a special place in Philippine history as the site where the Philippine flag was first unfurled in victory on May 28, 1898, following the triumph of Filipino revolutionary forces over Spanish troops. This historic event paved the way for the declaration of Philippine Independence and remains a symbol of courage, unity, and patriotism.

Imus City Mayor Alex “AA” Advincula delivered a message emphasizing the city’s vital role in the country’s struggle for freedom, describing Imus as one of the birthplaces of Philippine nationalism and a proud keeper of the nation’s revolutionary legacy. He encouraged the public, especially the youth, to continue honoring the sacrifices of the country’s heroes through active citizenship and love for the nation.

NHCP Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr. likewise underscored the importance of history in shaping national identity, reminding Filipinos that understanding the past is essential in building a stronger and more united future.

The celebration was also attended by Senator JV Ejercito, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and Cavite Governor Francisco Gabriel “Abeng” Remulla, who shared messages highlighting the values of democracy, patriotism, and national unity. Veterans from the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP), led by Region IV-A Vice President Celso Voluntad, also joined the commemoration and expressed appreciation for the continued recognition of their service and sacrifices.

A highlight of the ceremony was the simultaneous waving of the Philippine Flag accompanied by the patriotic song “Samu’t Saring Iisa” performed by Kent Charcos, symbolizing the unity and shared aspirations of the Filipino people.

The observance of National Flag Days will continue from May 28 to June 12, culminating in the celebration of Philippine Independence Day. Through activities such as these, the City Government of Imus and its partners continue to promote historical awareness, patriotism, and pride in the nation’s enduring journey toward freedom and progress.
