DSWD Region IV-A, Bacoor LGU Discuss Implementation of Tara Basa! Program

BACOOR CITY, Cavite — The City Government of Bacoor welcomed officials from Department of Social Welfare and Development Region IV-A during a courtesy visit on June 2 at the Office of the Mayor to discuss the implementation of the Tara Basa! Program in the city.

Present during the meeting were Mayor Strike B. Revilla, Gérardo Reyes, Nathalie Gwyn Gutierrez, and Jessa Gerona.

The discussion focused on the Tara Basa! Program, a literacy and educational assistance initiative that aims to improve reading proficiency among young learners while providing opportunities for economically disadvantaged college students.

Under the program, college students from low-income households will be trained and deployed as tutors for Grades 1 to 3 learners who require additional reading support in Filipino and English. In return, the student tutors will receive cash-for-work incentives for their participation.

Parents and guardians will also take part in family development and learning sessions designed to strengthen their involvement in their children’s education. Incentives will likewise be provided to encourage active participation and support learning at home.

As part of the partnership, the City Social Welfare and Development Office will assist in providing venues, coordinating with schools, and facilitating the implementation of the program across Bacoor’s 31 public elementary schools.

Officials said the initiative reflects the shared commitment of the local and national governments to strengthen literacy programs, expand educational opportunities, support deserving students, and empower families through community-based learning interventions.
