Cavite, Philippines — The Provincial Government of Cavite marked Pride Month with a colorful and meaningful celebration through its two-leg Pride Caravan, “Pride Without Borders,” held on August 16 in Amadeo and August 26 in Maragondon. The event gathered members of the LGBTQIA+ community, local officials, advocates, and supporters in a united call for inclusivity and acceptance.
The first leg in Amadeo took place at the Brgy. Dagatan Covered Court, with Mayor Jose “Jojo” Domingo Jr., Councilor Michelle Ricalde, Barangay Chairperson Joel Panganiban, and representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office leading the opening rites. Amadeo LGBTQIA+ President Paul John Profeta opened the program with a message highlighting the importance of respect and empathy across all genders.
Mayor Domingo, in his remarks, encouraged his constituents to embrace openness and understanding. “Sana po sa bayan ng Amadeo, magkaroon po tayo ng openness. Bigyan ng panahon ang mga sarili para makilala ang isa’t isa,” he said, as he lauded the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ sector to the municipality.
The event also featured an HIV awareness lecture by Dr. Melinda Villanueva of the Amadeo Rural Health Unit, who discussed prevention, dispelled myths, and emphasized the role of community support. Success stories were shared, including that of Leo Vidallon, who inspired the youth to be proud of their identity, saying, “Hindi ninyo kailangang itago ang katotohanan. Kailangan ninyong maging matapang upang maging ikaw.”
The second leg in Maragondon was held at the Municipal Covered Court, where Municipal Councilor Carlo Gestiada and MSWDO Officer-in-Charge Mark Reden Digma welcomed participants. On behalf of Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, Ms. Ekeiko Sadang of the Community-Based Operations Division delivered an inspirational message underscoring the equal worth of every individual, regardless of gender.
Further raising awareness, Provincial HIV Program Coordinator Haydelisa Maderazo led a session on HIV, AIDS, and STI prevention, encouraging participants to undergo screening and prioritize wellness. The program also highlighted another success story through government worker Lorraniel Chris Victoriano, who reminded attendees that success transcends gender and identity.
Beyond the discussions and testimonies, the caravan provided vital services from various agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry-Cavite, the Provincial Health Office, PESO, and the Cooperative Development Office, among others.
With its two-leg caravan, Cavite reaffirmed its commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces for all genders, sending a strong message of equality and unity across the province. /PR
