SANTA ROSA CITY, Laguna (PIA) — As a testament to the government’s effort to bolster digitization and innovation efforts for global competitiveness, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. led the official launch of VITRO Santa Rosa (VSR), the country’s biggest and first artificial intelligence or AI-ready Hyperscale Data Center.
It is a purpose-built, 50-megawatt hyperscale facility designed to serve global technology leaders in cloud and artificial intelligence or AI. Strategically connected to telecommunication company PLDT’s expansive subsea cable network spanning Asia, the U.S., and Europe, this flagship data center reinforces the Philippines’ position as a key digital gateway to the world.
In his message, President Marcos Jr. expressed confidence in the future of the country’s digital industry and competitiveness, highlighting VITRO Santa Rosa as a significant milestone in strengthening the Philippines’ digital security in the digital age.
“This launch of VITRO Santa Rosa Data Center is proof that the Philippines is future-ready for the digital realm. There is some work left to do, but we are ready to do that work so we can be an equal player in the world of data and data processing,” President Marcos stated.
He also highlighted the gains made by the country in global digital innovation through the launching of the National Fiber Backbone Project Phase 1 and the Free Public Internet Access Program, and its partnership and collaboration with private partners.
President Marcos Jr. added: “With these efforts of creating a more digitally-connected and energy-aware environment, the inauguration of VSR signals the country’s readiness to attract the world’s largest technology companies and showcase our regional competitiveness in the digital space.”
The Chief Executive firmly believes that the new facility signals to the world that the Philippines is ready to take a bold leap forward in digitization and innovation, and even invited digital investors to discover the vast potential of Filipino ingenuity.
“To our visionary investors, I invite you to come explore the potential of Filipino ingenuity. Bring your technology here! Let us shape that digital economy together—with the Filipino being your greatest asset!” President added.
In a statement, VITRO envisions its Santa Rosa Data Center to be the icon of the country’s digital transformation and the Philippines’ AI hub as it accelerates the digitalization of local and global enterprises and position the Philippines as the next hyperscale hub.
As part of the program, President Marcos, along with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Rhoel R. Aguda, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Maria Cristina A. Roque, Santa Rosa City Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas, were given a tour of the modern data center by PLDT Chairman and President Manny V. Pangilinan, and President and CEO of ePLDT and VITRO, Inc. Victor S. Genuino (CH,CO/PIA-4A)
